The 17th Busan Content Market (BCM), Asia’s largest market for broadcasting and video content, is set to open on May 31st at the first exhibition hall of BEXCO in Busan. The event, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the City of Busan, runs through June 2nd under the theme "Your Story is Our Story."
After being scaled down due to the pandemic, this year's BCM returns to its pre-pandemic scope as a fully offline event. Among the highlights is the participation of the team from the drama 'Paper Moon,' which was showcased at the Cannes Drama Festival Rendezvous. The GenieTV original drama's production team will share insights into the drama's creation and behind-the-scenes stories.
For the first time, the Busan-based OTT content 'Wow! Surf-Rise' will be unveiled at BCM Market. The BCM Small Enterprise Support Pavilion will also operate, promoting outstanding local content and helping domestic content producers explore new markets.
This year's BCM also features a conference on the regulatory changes affecting new media content like games and webtoons. The 'International Content Ratings Forum 19+' will discuss responsible and ethical content production amid the proliferation of adult-oriented content. Notable speakers include Dev Ross, the writer known for 'Winnie the Pooh's New Adventure,' who will speak on video content ratings and youth protection.
A new conference session focused on the emerging market of Latin America has been added. José Castro, chairman of the Costa Rican Film Commission, and other guests will discuss strategies for introducing Korean content into the Latin American market. This session also supports Busan's bid to host Expo 2030.
The 'AI Content Conference' will explore the current and future state of the creator economy and AI-integrated content, featuring insights into the evolving landscape of AI technologies in content creation.
BCM Funding will provide a platform for culture content production companies to engage in business matchmaking with the BCM investment advisory panel, consisting of about 30 venture capital firms specializing in content. BCM Global Pitching will offer domestic and international startups and prospective entrepreneurs a chance to showcase their potential.
At BCM Academy, SLL's Chief Producer Jung Dae-yoon will share experiences from producing the drama 'The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate,' providing insights into the latest trends and production techniques in the broadcasting and video content industry.
Side events include 'BIC4Dog,' focusing on pet-themed YouTube content, 'MediFest,' which discusses the social responsibilities of medical dramas, and the 'Good Influencer Awards,' which recognizes influencers with positive impacts.
