'Busan Content Market 2019' Opens, Supporting the Export of Korean Broadcast and Video Content and Revitalizing the Broadcasting Industry

The international broadcast and video content fair 'Busan Content Market (BCM) 2019' will be held from May 8 (Wed) to May 11 (Sat) at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO). The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Park Yang-woo) and the Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Oh Keo-don, Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee), and hosted by the Busan Content Market Organizing Committee (Chairman Hwang Ui-wan).

This year, marking the 13th Busan Content Market, aims to achieve a trade volume of $120 million. Participants from over 50 countries, totaling approximately 1,000 companies including domestic and international broadcasters, production companies, distributors, and animation/new media firms, are expected to partake in various programs designed to provide successful business opportunities.

New Media: This refers to interactive and multi-channel media that have emerged following the development of computer and telecommunication technologies, succeeding traditional mass media like television and newspapers.

This year, the market is particularly focusing on diversifying its export markets for broadcast content beyond Asia, such as China and Japan, by attracting buyers from various regions. With the participation of buyers from 270 companies overseas, this event is set to promote Korean broadcast content globally.

In support of expanding domestic and international investment in broadcast video content, the Busan Content Market 2019 will establish a collaboration system with local institutions such as the Busan Film Commission and the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency. The event will feature business matching to support the start-ups and investment attraction of production companies, international pitching where production companies can present their investment appeals directly to domestic and foreign investors, and showcases and investment agreement ceremonies to review the investment status of domestic and foreign venture capital associations.

A range of cooperative programs will be conducted to effectively engage with existing and potential content markets and facilitate transactions.
